About
Malmö University, established in 1998 and granted full university status in 2018, is located in Sweden and is dedicated to contributing to a more sustainable and equal society through research-based knowledge, critical reflection, and readiness to act. The university has around 24,000 students and 1,600 staff members. It offers programs across five faculties: Health and Society, Culture and Society, Education and Society, Technology and Society, and Odontology. Malmö University’s research strengths include sustainability studies, migration, urban studies, new media and technology, health and social sciences, and material science. The university features a modern urban campus with advanced facilities, a dental clinic, and extensive global partnerships that promote international collaboration and mobility.
Sustainability at Malmö University
Malmö University has a strong, institution-wide commitment to sustainability that shapes its research, teaching, campus life, and community engagement. The university’s vision and values call for contributing to a more sustainable and equal society through research-based knowledge, critical reflection, and readiness to act, and its operations are aligned to environmental, social, and economic goals. In teaching and learning, sustainability is woven into curricula via interdisciplinary courses and leadership programs, where students develop skills to address global goals such as climate action, justice, and health. On campus, resource-efficiency, climate targets (for example a large emissions reduction by 2030), and green procurement are priorities. Malmö University also works closely with external partners - students, local government, industry - to translate sustainability research into real societal benefit and support the SDGs through collaborative action.
