Toolkit: Education, Workforce Development, and Key Actions for a Green and Sustainable Economy
There is an urgent need to implement equitable green economy transitions globally.
To meet the science-based targets to protect the planet and decrease the negative impacts of climate change and other ecosystem damage, countries must rapidly shift economic incentives, policies, regulations and cultural norms. The transformation of the economic system will require a parallel transformation of the workforce to design, source and transport materials, and manufacture, distribute and install green technologies, infrastructure and products. Furthermore, the workers of today and tomorrow must be considered and enabled to contribute to these new green economies.
This toolkit, Education, Workforce Development, and Key Actions for a Green and Sustainable Economy, was created for the UNESCO Greening Education Partnership, and is directed at educators, government policymakers, program designers, and employers. (Employers exist in businesses, governments, and civil society.) It is helpful to all individuals championing the need for workforce development for a green economy and a sustainable future. The toolkit is also intended to help sub-national and local policymakers, program developers, and implementers working at all levels to create green and sustainable economies and related workforce development. It includes opportunities for networking and aligning efforts within and across countries.
