Inauguration of the Zakho Center for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG Center)

The University of Zakho (UoZ), located in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, has established the Zakho Center for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG Center) as a dedicated institutional platform for coordinating, promoting, and accelerating SDG-related activities across the University and beyond. The Center brings together students, academics, researchers, university units, public institutions, private-sector actors, and community partners to translate the SDGs from global commitments into practical local action.

The Center's work aims to foster interdisciplinary research, sustainability education, student-led initiatives, environmental action, innovation, community engagement, and partnerships for sustainable development. Particular attention is given to strengthening awareness and action on climate change, resource efficiency, sustainable communities, responsible practices, and pathways towards lower-carbon development.

Through this institutional commitment, UoZ aims to serve as a catalyst for sustainable transformation in the Kurdistan Region and contribute to international higher education networks advancing the SDGs.
