The University of the Aegean is a public, multi-campus university in Greece, founded in 1984 and spread across six islands in the Aegean Archipelago: Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Rhodes, Syros, and Lemnos. Its island-based structure shapes its identity as a university closely connected to regional development, environmental issues, cultural diversity, and the challenges of island communities. The university is also a member of the European Reform University Alliance (ERUA), where it contributes to shared work on innovative teaching, research, sustainability, social engagement, and institutional reform. Through ERUA and its own regional position, the University of the Aegean supports collaboration between students, academics, civil society, and local actors around issues such as quality education, climate action, democracy, inclusion, social innovation, and sustainable development.
