SMART Schools for Sustainable Solutions
SMART Schools for Sustainable Solutions is an innovative initiative led by New Vision University (NVU) in partnership with other stakeholders including the UN Global Compact Network Georgia. The Sustainable Development for Schools project aims to raise awareness of the SDGs among secondary school students and local school communities, while providing a platform to develop and implement sustainable development projects that address specific school needs.
In September 2025, NVU representatives conducted workshops on project management and SDGs in five public schools across Georgia. The sessions introduced participants to planning, budgeting, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation techniques. Under the guidance of mentors, student groups designed projects fully funded by the grant, ensuring practical application of their learning.
The initiative emphasizes the importance of partnerships (SDG 17), fostering collaboration between students, teachers, parents, school administrators, and local government representatives. By establishing stakeholder groups within each school, the project strengthens community engagement, encourages cooperative problem-solving, and builds sustainable, long-term relationships aimed at achieving the SDGs. NVU underscores that meaningful change in education and society can only occur through coordinated efforts, and this project exemplifies a model for integrating sustainability, capacity-building, and community collaboration in schools.
