Peacebuilding initiative by Sokhumi State University (SSU)

Sokhumi State University (SSU) demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainability through academic development and international cooperation through their peacebuilding initiatives. In 2024, SSU implemented the Jean Monnet Module, supported by the European Union, aiming to strengthen knowledge on Georgian and European peacebuilding and conflict prevention.

The module has been adopted in curricula and teaching. New and specialized courses to support interdisciplinary learning and promote critical engagement were developed within the scope of the module. Additionally, a summer school on its theme took place over the summer of 2025, providing the attending 134 students with a platform to explore EU integration, peacebuilding, and sustainable institutional development.

Reinforcing its internationalization and sustainability efforts, the University will host a Jean Monnet conference later this year. It will provide a forum for presenting research, exchanging knowledge, and discussing sustainable development challenges. Through these initiatives, SSU advances sustainability education, institutional resilience, and global partnerships, while contributing to Agenda 2030, specifically SDG16.
