About
Sokhumi State University (SSU), established in 1932 as a Pedagogical Institute, and recognized in 2008 as a public university. SSU prioritizes internationalization, sustainability, and international partnerships. With approximately 700 students and 190 academic staff, SSU offers all levels of graduate programs across five faculties including Natural Sciences, Business and Social Sciences, Law and diplomacy, Educational Sciences, and Humanities. Through its research projects and promotion of student and staff mobility, SSU emphasizes international cooperation.
Sustainability at Sokhumi State University
Sustainablitity and internationalization permeates SSU. A priority area of sustainable development at SSU is Peacebuilding, and as of 2024, the university adopted a peacebuilding paradigm at their institution, the Jean Monnet Module. The module aims to improve the quality of related study programs at the university and train students on Georgian and EU peacebuilding and conflict prevention.
