Workshop on Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Development (RS²LAB)
On March 6, 2025, the RS²LAB, a research group at the University of Cape Verde in collaboration with UNDP’s Accelerator Lab, hosted the workshop “Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities and Challenges in Implementing the SDGs.” Led by Professor Júlio Barros, the session explored how AI is transforming sectors such as agriculture, education, and health, with examples ranging from interactive whiteboards for visually impaired students to early skin cancer detection and forest fire prevention systems. Participants also examined critical challenges, including data manipulation, deepfakes, and algorithmic bias, highlighting both the potential and risks of AI for sustainable development.
