Siam University actively supports SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities through two key initiatives in Bangkok’s Phasi-Chareon District.

1. Phasi-Chareon Wellbeing Node – Suphatphiban Community Project
The university partners with local authorities and 45 communities to address shared sustainability challenges. In the Suphatphiban community, the Faculty of Communication Arts led the project “Empowering for Sustainability: From Helpless to Wellness” using the participatory “Tree of Hope” method. This approach enabled residents in a low-income area to identify key problems - such as limited access to healthy food - and organize collective action. Their efforts produced a community-run organic farming initiative aligned with SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), expanding from 10 to 50 participating families. The project created a communal garden that functions as both a training site and a sustainable food hub, demonstrating strong multi-stakeholder collaboration and improved community wellbeing. It was recognized internationally as a finalist in the 2025 Green Gown Awards.

2. S-Guard Barrier Poles for Safer Pathways
In response to widespread safety concerns caused by motorcycles driving on pedestrian pathways, the university collaborated with the district office to design S-Guard Barrier Poles. These poles block motorcycles but allow wheelchair access, addressing both safety and accessibility. After installation in eight key areas, complaints dropped significantly to only eight cases, prompting further installation in 15 locations and expansion plans across additional districts. This initiative supported an inclusive infrastructure aligned to SDG 9.

Together, these initiatives highlight how Siam University contributes to safer, more inclusive, and more sustainable urban communities.
