UNDRR & ISC Updated Hazard Information Profiles

The UNDRR–ISC Hazard Information Profiles (HIPs) provide a comprehensive, science-based reference for 281 hazards relevant to disaster risk reduction. Updated in 2025, the profiles reflect a modern multi-hazard approach, recognising that hazards often interact, cascade, and amplify one another’s impacts. Covering eight hazard categories—including meteorological, geological, biological, technological, and societal hazards—the HIPs offer standardised definitions and key characteristics to support consistent risk assessment, planning, and reporting. Enhanced machine-readable formats also improve their use in digital platforms, early warning systems, and risk assessment tools. Widely used by governments, researchers, UN agencies, and disaster risk practitioners, the profiles strengthen evidence-based decision-making and support the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Sustainable Development Goals, and broader climate adaptation and resilience efforts.
