Workshop on Sustainability in Jordanian Universities
The University of Petra hosted a two-day international workshop titled “Sustainability in Jordanian Universities,” attended by faculty members and students from several Jordanian universities as well as a partner institution from Germany. The event highlighted the importance of academic collaboration in advancing sustainability and strengthening the international presence of Jordanian higher education.
Organized as part of a DAAD-funded project focused on sustainability awareness and capacity building, the workshop aimed to introduce key sustainability concepts within higher education and to identify existing gaps and development needs. Participants learned about ongoing sustainability initiatives at the University of Petra and explored best practices that could serve as models for other institutions.
Practical sessions led by experts from the German partner university encouraged participants to exchange perspectives on sustainability across various domains, including environment, energy and water, education, and research. These discussions generated several innovative ideas for enhancing awareness and improving sustainability practices within universities.
The project will continue with two additional workshops - one scheduled to take place in Germany and a final session to be held in Jordan - to further advance the initiative’s goals.
