VIII Annual CESOP-Local Seminar for Sustainable Development

On 26 June 2025, the Catholic University of Portugal hosted the VIII Annual CESOP-Local Seminar on Sustainable Development, under the theme “Sustainability and Territorial Cohesion.” The seminar brought together academics, policymakers, and local leaders to discuss how sustainability strategies can strengthen social and regional cohesion in Portugal. Organized by CESOP-Local, the event highlighted the importance of aligning local governance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, fostering dialogue between institutions and communities, and promoting innovative approaches to sustainable territorial development.

The program featured opening remarks by Vice-Rector Margarida Mano, followed by testimonies from mayors on regional perspectives. Sessions explored territorial inequalities in regional development, including reflections from academics and policymakers, and a panel on the theme “Leave No One Behind,” addressing inclusion and sustainable growth. The seminar concluded with an open debate, closing remarks, and networking, fostering dialogue between local leaders, researchers, and sustainability experts.
