Silliman University & GCash Partner for Major Coastal Restoration

Building on their successful mangrove reforestation initiative, Silliman University, a leading marine science institution, and fintech company GCash are expanding their partnership to restore coastal ecosystems in the Negros Island region in the Philippines.

Following the planting of 500,000 mangroves in 2023, the partners secured approval in 2025 to launch Phase 2 of the project. This new phase will see the planting of another 500,000 mangrove and beach forest seedlings in coastal areas. The project, formalized on February 20, 2025, actively involves local communities in nursery development and ongoing tree monitoring, ensuring the long-term success and sustainability of the restoration efforts. The initiative aims to revitalize vital coastal ecosystems and improve livelihoods in the region.
