Higher Education for Sustainable Societies Community

The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) has launched the initiative Higher Education for Sustainable Societies Community uniting the ACU’s Policy Networks - the Higher Education and SDGs Network, Commonwealth Peace & Reconciliation Network, and Commonwealth Climate Resilience Network - into a new online forum for staff at ACU member universities. Launching in September 2025 on ACU Connect, the community will enable members to collaborate on embedding sustainability and climate resilience into teaching, research, and operations. It supports knowledge exchange, inclusive research, and equitable partnerships aligned with the SDGs helping universities share best practices, access resources, and strengthen their collective impact on sustainable development.

This includes:

  • Embedding sustainable development and climate resilience into university operations
  • Integrating sustainable development and decolonial approaches into the curriculum and learning content
  • Developing inclusive research strategies focused on sustainable development and indigenous knowledge systems
  • Co-creating research for impact and community engagement/ knowledge exchange projects
  • Building equitable partnerships locally and globally around sustainability goals
