About

The University of Pécs (PTE) is an institution of higher education in Hungary. The modern university was established in 1912 but has its roots in the medieval university founded in Pécs in 1367 by King Louis I the Great. A total of 20,000 students presently attend the University of Pécs, approximately 4,500 of whom are international students studying in English or German. 

Education

As a part of the European higher education system, UP operates in the terms of the Bologna process offering the three-tier system consisting of bachelor level programs (BA, BSc) which last 6–8 semesters, master level programs (MA, MSc) with a duration of 2–4 semesters and doctoral level programs (PhD, DLA). Additionally, the university offers one-tier, undivided, long-term master's degree programs (5–6 years) in the domain of medicine, law, arts and engineering. Furthermore, interested students have the opportunity to experience short programs, such as preparatory courses, summer universities, and partial trainings.

The Szentágothai Research Centre of the University of Pécs is a research institute established on the basis of modern international science organizational and management normatives. The Technology Transfer Office has been at the disposal of researchers, students and business partners.

Sustainability at PTE

Since 2016, the University of Pécs has actively participated in the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking and, thanks to its consistent environmental efforts, entered the world’s top 100 green universities in 2019. The university approaches sustainability holistically, integrating it into campus operations as well as its natural, social, and economic environment. Guided by a mission to promote ecological awareness through education, innovation, and responsible management, the university has earned a number of recognitions, including “Responsible Employer of the Year,” “Energy Efficient Institution,” and the Baranya County Environmental Prize. It also launched major developments through the Modern Cities Programme and created the Baranya Virtual Power Plant Program, which achieved significant regional energy savings. Supported by international collaboration, including Visegrad Fund partnerships, the University of Pécs continues to expand its sustainability ambitions for the future.
