University of Nairobi Takes Root in National Tree Planting Initiative

The University of Nairobi community actively contributed to Kenya's ambitious reforestation goals on Friday, April 11th, 2025, by planting over 3,000 seedlings at the Faculty of Agriculture's Upper Kabete campus. The planting included a mix of avocado and indigenous trees, directly supporting the national strategy to increase Kenya's forest cover from under 10% to 30% by 2032.

Building on this commitment, the University of Nairobi held its annual tree-planting day in April 2025 at the Upper Kabete Campus. This saw enthusiastic participation from students and staff who planted over 3,000 indigenous and fruit tree seedlings. This significant community engagement effort further supports Kenya's national "15 billion trees by 2032" campaign aimed at expanding the country's forest cover. Notably, UoN has integrated yearly tree-planting targets into each department's operational plans, ensuring that reforestation is a continuous and university-wide endeavor.
