Second Nature: Higher Education Clean Energy Projects Map (HECEMAP)

Launched in 2026 by Second Nature, the Higher Education Clean Energy Projects Map (HECEMAP) is an interactive initiative designed to showcase clean energy and climate-action projects implemented by higher education institutions across the United States. The platform maps more than 700 campus-based projects linked to the opportunities created through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), highlighting the scale and diversity of institutional climate leadership. 

Developed for universities, policymakers, researchers, sustainability professionals, and the wider public, the initiative aims to support collaboration, knowledge sharing, and investment in decarbonization efforts. By making campus climate initiatives more visible, HECEMAP encourages the expansion of innovative and impactful clean energy solutions in higher education and contributes to the acceleration of SDG 9 (industry, innovation & infrastructure) and SDG 11 (sustainable cities and communities).
