The UN Climate Change Universities Partnership Programme (UNFCCC), established in 2018 under the Nairobi Work Programme, connects graduate students and universities with real-world climate adaptation needs within the UNFCCC process. It enables students from accredited universities worldwide to conduct research that addresses practical, country-specific climate challenges.

Participating universities gain access to UN-identified knowledge needs, and student research outputs are used to support global and national adaptation planning. The programme strengthens university engagement with the UN system, builds capacity, and helps translate academic research into actionable climate solutions.

Since its launch, the initiative has partnered with 13 universities across multiple regions, producing research that has informed decision-making on issues such as early warning systems, ecosystem-based adaptation, and climate resilience. The UNFCCC is inviting more universities to join and contribute to this effort.
