Carleton University’s Tiny Forest initiative

Announced on 29 July 2025, Carleton University’s Tiny Forest initiative will create a new community green space on the north end of campus in partnership with EnviroCentre. Planned for planting in Fall 2025, the 200-square-metre site will include about 600 native plants, including 200 trees, arranged in canopy, shrub and forest-floor layers. Inspired by the Miyawaki method, the project supports biodiversity, carbon sequestration, rainwater absorption, shade, air quality and well-being. Benches and signage will make the space accessible for reflection and learning, while strengthening campus sustainability, ecological restoration and community connection.
