Al-Mustaqbal University initiative to protect biodiversity
Al-Mustaqbal University, Iraq, is further advancing its sustainability agenda through the development of expanded plant nurseries and campus greening initiatives designed to strengthen environmental resilience and biodiversity. As part of its ongoing contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Iraq’s national environmental priorities, the university has continued to invest in ecological projects that are reshaping its Babylon campus into a dynamic green space for learning and research.
Led by the Agricultural Section, the initiative includes the cultivation and preservation of thousands of plant varieties, among them rare species that support the conservation of Iraq’s natural ecosystems. The expansion of landscaped and vegetated areas across the campus is also helping to improve environmental quality and provide a healthier setting for the university community. By combining sustainability practices with academic and scientific activities, the university reinforces its role as a centre for environmental innovation and as a practical model for sustainable campus development.
