EDuC Label
The EDuC Label is an accreditation and assessment framework designed by Join EDuC to support the integration of sustainability across higher education programs in all disciplines. It provides a structured approach for institutions to evaluate and strengthen how sustainability principles are embedded in teaching, learning, and overall program design. The framework encourages collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement among educators, administrators, and students.
The system is built around three key components:
- The EDuC Label Criteria Framework, which defines standards for sustainability integration in academic programs.
- The EDuC Metrics ESD Maturity Assessment Tool, which helps universities evaluate the extent of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) across their curricula.
- Our Pledge, a declaration of commitment to advancing sustainability in higher education.
The EDuC Label offers benefits for a range of stakeholders: program leaders can assess sustainability integration; faculty can evaluate and enhance teaching practices; administrators can monitor and communicate progress; and students can compare programs globally based on sustainability criteria.
Developed over four years with input from pedagogy specialists, universities, and AFNOR - France’s national standardization body and ISO representative—the framework comprises 120 criteria organized around three dimensions of higher education program development: program design, management, and continuous improvement. Together, these elements provide a transparent and measurable foundation for embedding sustainability competencies into higher education curricula worldwide.
