During the 2016 COPERNICUS Alliance Conference that took place in Vienna on 14-15 September, a MoU was signed between IAU and COPERNICUS Alliance. It marks a long history of cooperation and officialise the wish to jointly foster HESD.

With this MoU, both organizations will cooperate and develop joint actions supporting the principles and areas of interest outlined in the UNESCO Global Action Programme (GAP) and 2030 Development Agenda and related UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The list of actions annexed to the MoU includes, among others, a joint Call for papers and a professional training programme on HESD leadership.
