BONSAI: Aalborg University Climate footprint analyser
BONSAI (Big Open Network for Sustainability Assessment Information) is an open-access sustainability intelligence project developed by researchers and sustainability experts at Aalborg University, Denmark, to make reliable environmental data accessible to everyone. The platform provides transparent, science-based information on product footprints, enabling users to compare the environmental impact of products and make more informed decisions. By combining life-cycle assessment data with advanced digital tools, BONSAI supports evidence-based policymaking, sustainable consumption, and climate-conscious business practices. Its mission is to address the lack of accessible and unbiased sustainability information currently available to consumers, organisations, and decision-makers.
The project strongly contributes to several UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), by promoting transparency, reducing carbon footprints, and supporting data-driven sustainability innovation.
