Sustainability at UC Chile

UC Chile has devoted significant resources to efforts towards sustainability. One example is the UC Chile Office for Sustainability, the unit responsible for promoting and articulating sustainability efforts within the university. This office contributes with studies, campaigns and concrete actions, many of which are developed in conjunction with other units of the university and the community in general. This is because UC Chile believes in collaborative work and understand that the essence of sustainability is transversal to all activities and involves all people.

UC Chile is also home to the Institute for Sustainable Development. The Institute for Sustainable Development (IDS) is a new interdisciplinary academic unit, belonging to the entire Catholic University through its 18 Faculties, to the UC College and the Villarrica Regional Headquarters. The IDS is a collective project that seeks to respond to the complex challenges that emanate from the socio-environmental crisis. The institute offers an academic space aimed at strengthening the UC's contribution to sustainable development, through transformative teaching, inter- and transdisciplinary research, and collaboration with society.
