Find out about IAU's participation in the UN High-Level Political Forum 2020!

The High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) is the yearly conference of the United Nations where governments, UN Agencies and civil society come together to discuss the achievements that have been made towards Agenda 2030. This year, the event was fully virtual, taking place from 7- 16 July 2020. IAU, with our partners ACU and AUF, was attending and co-organizing several virtual events!

The High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) is the yearly conference of the United Nations where governments, UN Agencies and civil society come together to discuss the achievements that have been made towards Agenda 2030.

This year, the event was held virtually and was dedicated to the theme: "Accelerated action and transformative pathways: realizing the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development." IAU holds the Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) which allows the Association to take an active part in this high level event. The Consultative Status is the highest status granted by the United Nations to non-governmental organizations.

In the framework of the HLPF, IAU took part in various side events and co-organized a series of virtual events, together with partners and Members.

IAU co-organized a workshop on 13 July 2020 from 9:00 to 10:30am EST on the theme Teaching, Learning and Integrating the SDGs at universities and beyond - Linking to the Decade of Action with ACU/AUF, ICAE and The SDG Academy.

7 July 2020 | 2-3:30 pm EST (20-21:30 CEST): UNODC workshop titled ‘ Developing transformational partnerships to catalyze SDGs implementation ’ At this event, IAU Secretary General, Dr Hilligje van’t Land, was part of the panel and shared her experience on multi-stakeholder partnerships with higher education.Information and Recording here

8 July 2020 | 8-10 a.m. EST: HESI (Higher Education Sustainability Initiative) Virtual event. IAU is part of HESI and co-organized this event. IAU Secretary General, Dr Hilligje van’t Land, moderated the main panel discussion with participation of Stefania Giannini, UNESCO, and representatives from Academia and UN bodies. 8 July 2020 | International Green Gown Awards (IGGA) Virtual Ceremony.IAU is partner of the IGGA, sat on the judging panel, and IAU Secretary General will present the winner for ‘Sustainability Institution of the year’ at the ceremony.Information and Finalists here

13 July 2020 | 9-10:30 a.m. EST (New York City time) - 15-16:30 CEST (Paris time): IAU co-organized a workshop with ACU/AUF, ICAE, The SDG Academy titled ‘Teaching, Learning and Integrating the SDGs at universities and beyond - Linking to the Decade of Action’ .
