UNESCO-Japan Prize on Education for Sustainable Development (2016)

Prize on Education for Sustainable Development has been created to honour outstanding efforts of individuals, institutions, organizations or other entities engaged in ESD activities.

Context

Within the UNESCO led Global Action Programme on Education for Sustainable Development (GAP), a Prize on Education for Sustainable Development has been created to honour outstanding efforts of individuals, institutions, organizations or other entities engaged in ESD activities.

The Prize was established by the Executive Board of UNESCO at its 195th session, and officially announced at the UNESCO World Conference on ESD (Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, Nov 2014). The prize, which is funded by the Government of Japan, consists of three annual awards of USD 50,000 for each recipient.

2016 Selection Process

·         27 January 2016: Launch of Call for Nominations

·         30 April 2016: Last date to submit Online Nominations

·         29/30 June 2016: International Jury Meeting

·         Mid-September 2016: Announcement of the Prize Winners

·         October 2016: Award Ceremony
