MONTEVITIS Project

Montenegro is one of the historic cradles of viticulture, yet research on climate and soil factors affecting this sector remains limited. The EU-funded MONTEVITIS project aims to enhance the University of Donja Gorica’s (UDG) research and collaboration capacity to improve climate change mitigation and adaptation in viticulture.

MONTEVITIS employs an integrated European approach by adapting existing analytical and modeling tools to assess the regional climate change effects on grapevine physiology, yield, ripening, and the quality of various grape and wine varieties. The project also incorporates innovative ICT technologies to strengthen mitigation and adaptation strategies in vineyards through precision viticulture.

The project’s principal objective is to build and harmonize the research capabilities of UDG’s faculties and laboratories both nationally and across Europe. It combines the expertise of all consortium members through twinning processes that blend research methodologies and expand knowledge to benefit UDG and its partners.

MONTEVITIS brings together EU partners from countries renowned for their exceptional viticulture regions and extensive research and development (R&D) experience in climate and viticulture studies. This collaboration fosters valuable knowledge exchange, capacity building, and sustainability enhancement. The involvement of several Montenegrin partners further amplifies the project’s local impact and outreach.
