Learning Cities hosting Life Long Learning Festivals

As part of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities, two cities in Ireland, Dublin and Cork, are arranging Learning festivals to highlight Lifelong learning and learning for all. By engaging business and communities across the cities, these festivals creates opportunities for Dublin and Cork residents to explore different ways of learning, listen to various ideas and meet new people. Activities and opportunities during these festivals range from practical classes, for example meditation, yoga, arts and crafts, and languages, to workshops, talks, walks, performances, and more. Some of the events are online, offering attendants accessible ways to participate.

The festivals engage the whole community, and universities are active hosts of various activities. University College Cork (UCC) hosts several sessions throughout the festival in Cork such as a workshop and class on why physical activity is important, and a class on critical literacy focused on who gets their voice heard in media and why. Similarly, University College Dublin (UCD) hosts an introduction lecture to Chinese language and tea culture, and a full-day sustainability workshop with different activities. Through their engagement in the festivals, UCC and UCD promote the acceleration of SDG12 and SDG4, contributing to more sustainable societies and communities.
