Organization of the COP2 for Students
Organization of the COP2 for Students
Sustainable Development Goals
Driven both by the enthusiasm of students for initiatives concerning the environment and the commitments of universities to educate about climate issues, and encouraged by the success of the first Student COP1, students from all backgrounds organized this year the Student COP2 ( Conference of the Parties). This was initially scheduled for April 2020 in Grenoble, France, but was postponed to April 10 and 11, 2021.
The COP (Conference of the Parties) is a form of organization specific to certain international conventions. In this case, COP designates the reunion of students coming from various backgrounds.
In the current ecological emergency, everyone agrees that it is essential to act as quickly as possible.
The organization of the Student COP2 therefore aspired to :
-accelerate awareness to encourage students, teacher-researchers, university presidents, directors of Grandes Écoles as well as partners French and international to act.
-take stock of the initiatives undertaken since the creation of the Green Plan in 2009 and commit to specific and formal objectives.
-increase local and global initiatives through the exchange of knowledge, know-how and ideas.
On the festival program encouraged creativity, stimulation, sharing of good practices and humor. Next to conferences and debates, the program included fun challenges, artistic activities and a little concert organized by the COP team.
By inviting students, professors, members of student associations, higher education institutions and political representatives, the Student COP2 provided a platform for discussing a joint action plan, and network.
Negotiations have been prepared ahead of the weekend, through a student consultation and prospecting in universities in order to obtain proposals which have then been audited. They have been offered to the various actors before and during the event. A space for reflection and debate has been set up so that working groups could be effective.
The event targeted students from all over France and from all social backgrounds, 600 institutions, or 95% of institutions in France, were invited to participate. However, the diversity of backgrounds couldn't be ignored. Thus, content has been offered for all audiences, to those with previous knowledge, but also to those who have little or no awareness yet. Finally, international delegations and speakers have been invited to diversify points of view and ideas.
