2015 was a key year in the field of development and the environment: not only were the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agreed upon; addressing climate change was boosted through the Paris Agreement in December that year. The big question, however, is whether and how countries will implement the combined sustainable development and climate goals.
This summer school, in collaboration with the Climate Technology Centre and Network; one of the UN-institutions responsible for enhancing climate technology implementation, will take a multidisciplinary and practical perspective, and discuss climate and sustainable development actions, their costs and benefits, as well as related policies and needed governance.
The summer school will engage participants in discussions on the prospects and attractiveness of climate technologies and policies, and their relations with sustainable development practices, from environmental, technical, economic, social and institutional points of view. Implementation of climate change options and the SDGs does not take place under “laboratory conditions” but in usually complex and dynamic social, economic and political contexts.
The summer school will introduce participants to the new institutional and governance framework following the Paris Agreement, and review how climate policies to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement are being implemented in developed and developing countries.
