The world beyond 2015, is higher education ready?
Sustainable Development Goals
Presentation
This website is a platform for anyone interested in the sector to learn and contribute to the general debate on higher education and its role in global development.
Main activities
Higher education has not traditionally been seen as a leading player in the development arena. In the world beyond 2015, will and should things be different? How will universities influence and be influenced by the Post-2015 agenda?
Universities are central to any sustainable effort to develop social and economic wellbeing. Often, however, the breadth and depth of their contribution is not adequately recognised. In what ways are universities already addressing local, national, and international developmental issues?
Universities will find ever more exacting expectations and demands placed on them in the Post-2015 landscape. What strategies, resources, skills, and infrastructure do universities need to develop in order to rise to these new challenges?
Universities are expected to play an increasingly prominent role in addressing societal issues. What organisations can universities work with to achieve this? What partnerships should universities seek to establish to ensure that they reach and serve the right stakeholders in the right way?
Universities are sometimes perceived as remote, elite institutions detached from everyday life. How are universities communicating and strengthening their role in their communities? What more could be done to demonstrate their relevance?
Higher education has an important role to play in driving and delivering the emergent Post-2015 goals. Considering the current 12 illustrative goals, how relevant, appropriate, and achievable are the goals likely to be? What metrics and indicators can be developed, and how can they be applied?
