Call to Action: UN Ocean Decade

The UN Ocean Decade is a global initiative that mobilises science, policy, and society to achieve “the ocean we want” by 2030. It provides a collaborative framework for generating knowledge and delivering solutions to pressing ocean challenges, from climate change to biodiversity loss, in direct support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The newly launched Call for Decade Actions invites organisations, researchers, policymakers, and communities to submit transformative programmes, projects, or contributions that advance ocean science and solutions. These “Decade Actions” are concrete initiatives designed to tackle global ocean challenges through collaboration and innovation. Two dedicated Q&A sessions (on 4 and 5 May, register here) will support applicants, providing guidance on the submission process and helping refine ideas for endorsement.

Participating in the call offers a unique opportunity to join a global network, increase the visibility of your work, and contribute to evidence-based decision-making for sustainable ocean management. By engaging in this call, stakeholders actively accelerate progress toward SDG 14 (Life Below Water) and broader sustainability goals, ensuring that science translates into real-world impact.
